Objects
The Objects of the Company shall be as follows:
- to act as Trustee and Manager of the Shrewsbury Drapers' Company General Charities and of the Hospital of St. Giles according to the terms of the Charity Commission Schemes of 5 September 1966, 30 March 1992 and 11 April 1997, and of 20 March 1969 respectively, or any that may supersede or amend them.
- to renew and adapt the ancient customs and traditions of service to the community of the Ancient Guild of Drapers of Shrewsbury by carrying out charitable activities beneficial to the community of Shrewsbury and its environs, either by establishing an additional Scheme or Trust for charitable purposes beyond the scope of the ' above-mentioned Charities or operating directly as a Registered Charity .
- with the agreement in each case of the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales, to assume and exercise the trusteeship of other Trusts or Charities operating within the County of Shropshire which are of uneconomic size or in need of trustees.
- to manage the activities, funds and property of the above-mentioned Charities, including the provision of management, buildings, facilities and employees, and the recovery of tax.
- to raise funds for the above-mentioned Charities or for other Registered Charities nominated at the time, within any constraints of .!~ the Law, through social events, collections, raffles or competitions, open either to the Freemen of the Company or to the wider community or both.
- to raise new charitable funds from the Freemen of the Company through the payment of such proportion of Fines and of Quarterage as the Court shall determine, which shall each year be divided between any of the said Charities or accumulated for future division between them.
- to raise new charitable funds, either collectively or separately for each, for the said Charities by other means including the acquiring maintaining and disposing of property, either real or personal, the proceeds of which shall each year be divided between any of the said Charities or accumulated for future division between them.
- to increase the effectiveness of the Company as a benevolent and charitable organisation by fostering social activities within the Company, with other benevolent societies and with the local community, thus developing esprit de corps within the Company and enhancing its reputation within the community at large.
