The Shrewsbury Drapers Company announce the Theme for the 2011 competition
Julia Winter announced the theme for the 2011 Textile Design Competition on Friday 26th November 2010 in St Marys Church in the Drapers Chapel.
Julia said "The theme for the next competition to be held in 2011 in the year we celebrate our 550th anniversary will be CELEBRATION"
Julia added "The celebration of the Companies 550th anniversary will take place in 2011/12 so the Competition sub - committee thought it would be appropriate to have Celebration as our competition theme. The fact there will be a Royal wedding in the same year we hope will give entrants inspiration and extra incentive to produce something exceptional."
The Company was set up by Royal Charter in on 12th January 1462 and in exchange for the rights to sell woolen cloth in Shrewsbury the Company agreed to maintain the Chapel in St Mary`s. Julia said "We hope many entrants will gain inspiration from the wonderful treasures in The Drapers` Chapel in St Mary`s Church in Shrewsbury.
