The Master of the Shrewsbury Drapers Company, Nancy Sykes-Waller, and Clerk, Lyndsey O’Loughlin, were honoured to attend a distinguished white tie dinner hosted by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen at Plaisterers’ Hall in London. The evening was a celebration of Livery tradition, fellowship, and civic pride, set against the elegant backdrop of one of the City’s grandest halls.

 An Evening of Ceremony and Connection

The evening commenced with a champagne reception, offering a warm and convivial atmosphere in which Masters, Clerks, and guests from across the Livery movement gathered to exchange greetings and share insights. The reception provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen inter-livery ties and celebrate the enduring legacy of the City’s ancient guilds.

 A Sumptuous Banquet in the Great Hall

Guests were then invited into the magnificent Great Hall, where a beautifully set table awaited. A sumptuous multi-course dinner was served, thoughtfully paired with fine wines that complemented each dish. The Master was seated in esteemed company, joined by a Past Master and former Lord Mayor of London, as well as the Master of the Company of Young Freemen—an inspiring reminder of the intergenerational strength of the Livery tradition.

 Celebrating Innovation in Wool

Following the meal, the evening took a celebratory turn as the winners of theInnovation in Wool Awards were announced and presented with their accolades. These awards recognise pioneering work in wool design, sustainability, and technology—highlighting the ongoing relevance and versatility of this historic material in modern industry. The presentations were met with enthusiastic applause and admiration from all in attendance.

 A Stirring Address from the Previous Lord Mayor

The evening’s keynote address was delivered by the previous Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King DL. Speaking with warmth and conviction, Alderman King reflected on the vital role Livery Companies continue to play in supporting education, trade, and charitable work across the City and beyond. He also offered a fascinating glimpse into his own responsibilities as the City’s ambassador, championing London’s global leadership in financial and professional services.

 A Toast to Fellowship

Following the formal proceedings, guests retired to the ante-room where the evening concluded with further drinks and lively conversation. The occasion was a fitting tribute to the enduring spirit of the Livery and a memorable opportunity for the Shrewsbury Drapers to represent their historic Company with pride.
