 2026 TEXTILE COMPETITION THEME FOR 16-22 YEAR OLDS AND ADULTS – 

‘INSPIRED  BY AN ARTIST!’

                                                                                                          

The ‘Artist’ can be from any artistic discipline – so it could be a painter, a dancer, an architect, a photographer, or a sculptor or a tapestry or some street art you feel inspired by. If you are uncertain, please contact us and we will try to help you.

The 11-16 year olds do not have to follow a theme.

2025 TEXTILE COMPETITION

VENUE:The Darwin Room, Shrewsbury Library, Shrewsbury, SY1 2AS

KEY DATES: 

Friday 31st October: Return registration form

Friday 7thNovember, OR Saturday 8th November 10:00 – 3:30 – Take entries to The Darwin Room, Shrewsbury Library. It is on the first floor but there is a lift. You can park briefly outside the library, there is a turntable at the bottom of the hill.

Tuesday 11th November:Judging

Tuesday 11th November:  6:00 – 8:00 Adult & Students Textile Awards and Presentations Evening in the Darwin room at The Shrewsbury Library.

Wednesday 12th – Saturday 22nd November: Public Exhibition at Shrewsbury Library – Open 9:30 – 5:00 (Tuesday 9:30 – 7:00, Saturday 9:30 – 4:00 & Sunday Closed)

Tuesday 18th November: 4:30 – 6:30 KS3 & KS4 Awards & Presentations Evening in the Darwin Room at The Shrewsbury Library

Saturday 22nd November:Collection of exhibits 2:30 – 3:30   OR   Monday 24th November: 10:00 – 1:00

The theme for , 2024, was Four Seasons’ – We welcome all student entries in the 16-22 age category and all adult entries 22+.

There is NO theme for the 11-16 year olds. 

YOUNG TEXTILE DESIGN COMPETITION 2024

Key Stage 3, Year 7, 8 & 9  – no theme                                             

Key Stage 4, Year 10 & 11  – no theme

  • One entry per student.
  • Entries can be submitted via the school/teacher or independently providing the registration form is used.
  • We appreciate it is sometimes difficult to finish a whole piece between September and November so pieces produced during the year of 2024 can be entered, not just ones completed just within the Autumn term of 2024.

Competition is open to:  

A-Level Students in full time education – their entries will be submitted into the Student Class (16-22 years old) which does have a theme, this year being The Four Seasons”.

  • One entry per student.

DRAPERS & GUESTS ADMIRE TEXTILE DESIGN COMPETITION ENTRIES

Drapers Company members, friends and guests viewed the Textile Design Competition entries at the reception in St. Marys before the annual Guest Night Supper at the end of November 2021.

TEXTILE SUCCESS!

Sarah Mills the Winner of The Jackie Ryan Memorial Award 2019 has now completed her first year at Birmingham City University. During the course students are encouraged to enter their work for a range of national textile competitions. Sarah has recently won two awards in the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition 2021.

1st Prize: The Clothworkers’ Company Award

A printed Textile Design for either fashion or interiors which shows creative potential

Sarah’s delicate print design was inspired by the Serengeti and included animals such as elephants, giraffes, lions and antelope

Commendation: The JH Clissold & Son Ltd Award

A woven fabric which shows creative potential

Sarah’s entry consisted of a hand woven panel with raffia inserted textured yarns

Sarah enjoys designing for both printed textiles and weaving and is planning to combine both these techniques to develop her work throughout the second year of her degree course.

The Bradford Textile Society was established in 1893 and is the oldest textile society in Britain, if not in the world. The Society’s annual Design Competition has a total prize money of over £17,000 and is unique in it’s breadth of coverage and attracts almost 1,000 entries from students throughout the UK.
