Competition is open to:
A-Level Students in full time education – their entries will be submitted into the Student Class (16-22 years old) which does have a theme, this year being “The Four Seasons”.
As usual, there is a vast array of fabulous prizes to be won.
Drapers Company members, friends and guests viewed the Textile Design Competition entries at the reception in St. Marys before the annual Guest Night Supper at the end of November 2021.

Sarah Mills the Winner of The Jackie Ryan Memorial Award 2019 has now completed her first year at Birmingham City University. During the course students are encouraged to enter their work for a range of national textile competitions. Sarah has recently won two awards in the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition 2021.

1st Prize: The Clothworkers’ Company Award
A printed Textile Design for either fashion or interiors which shows creative potential
Sarah’s delicate print design was inspired by the Serengeti and included animals such as elephants, giraffes, lions and antelope

Commendation: The JH Clissold & Son Ltd Award
A woven fabric which shows creative potential
Sarah’s entry consisted of a hand woven panel with raffia inserted textured yarns

Sarah enjoys designing for both printed textiles and weaving and is planning to combine both these techniques to develop her work throughout the second year of her degree course.
The Bradford Textile Society was established in 1893 and is the oldest textile society in Britain, if not in the world. The Society’s annual Design Competition has a total prize money of over £17,000 and is unique in it’s breadth of coverage and attracts almost 1,000 entries from students throughout the UK.
